Q: How can I volunteer with Kuvamba?

A: Volunteering is easy – just email us and we’ll get in touch with you.

Q: How old are the students at your tutoring center?

A: Our students vary in age from year to year and project to project. We typically work with children between the ages of 4 and 16.

Q: How many students do you have at Rock Hill?

A: We limit the class sizes at Rock Hill Tutoring Center to 10 students. This allows our tutors to give individual attention to each student and affords the greatest opportunity for success in learning.

Q: What kind of kids do you teach?

A: Kuvamba offers free education to at-risk kids. Kids may be considered at-risk due to their family’s socioeconomic status or other factors. Many of the children we teach or provide sponsorship for live in rural communities. Others have lived or worked on the streets of Harare.

Q: Where do your sponsored students attend school?

A: Students are placed into schools within their communities whenever possible. All schools that Kuvamba students attend are kept anonymous in order to protect the privacy of our students.

Q: Why do you never show your students’ faces in promotional photos?

A: We have made a commitment to protect the privacy of all our students. That means we very rarely show their faces in photographs, especially in connection with fundraising. Our goal is for all our students to be treated with dignity and respect, especially as we fundraise for their education.

Q: Where is Kuvamba registered?

A: Kuvamba is registered as a nonprofit trust in Zimbabwe, and is also recognized as a project by Community Vision International, a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the United States. This allows us to receive both international and local funding for Kuvamba’s projects.

Q: Who founded Kuvamba?

A: The Kuvamba trust was founded in 2015 by Kuda and Ruth Zvinoera and Kudzai Ruhukwa. As the founding members, they also make up the Board of Directors.

Q: Is Kuvamba affiliated with any political party?

A: Not at all.

Q: Why do you only focus on education and not food or shelter?

A: Kuvamba exists within an ecosystem of organizations that are working to meet the needs of the underprivileged. Our work is focused on education so that we can provide the best possible learning experience for our students. When other needs must be met, Kuvamba partners with other organizations that specialize in other areas. By each focusing on our strengths, we better serve our target population.
