As part of our commitment to reaching at-risk youth and transforming lives, we are supporting the education of students in low-income communities. Many children in rural areas of Zimbabwe do not have the educational opportunities of those in urban environments. There is a high risk that children from rural communities, whose families cannot afford to send them to school, will become trapped in a cycle of poverty and be unable to realize their full, God-given potential.

Rock Hill is a tutorial center in the rural community of Glen Forest, just outside Harare. The center is modeled after a formal school, with individual grades and experienced teachers. In order to best reach our community, Rock Hill uses a self-paced, Montessori-inspired learning curriculum that places a high emphasis on personal responsibility for learning.

Our preschool/kindergarten center is called Rock Hill Play Group. Children who are brand-new to school start their education journey in our Play Group – a place for them to feel safe and loved, where they can grow and learn and hear about Jesus.

When students begin Grade 1 at Rock Hill Tutoring Center, they continue to receive individual support from their tutors as they learn to read and are introduced to the exciting world of math and science. Our focus on teaching each child to speak and understand English means all our students are bilingual and are well-prepared for future grades. Rock Hill Tutoring Center currently has classes for Grades 1 to 3, and we hope to continue adding classes as our students grow and learn.

Class sizes at Rock Hill are limited to ten students so that each child receives individual attention from his or her teacher and has the best chance of success. Students are chosen according to strict criteria and come from homes and communities that have been severely impacted by poverty. The cost of their education is subsidized by Kuvamba’s donors – people just like you!
